Honor of Kings, the Chinese version of Arena of Valor, faced another outage as people turn to mobile games instead of traveling because of the coronavirus pandemic

You might already know about PUBG Mobile, Arena of Valor and Bright Memory, but there are many Chinese mobile games worth checking out

Huya is a popular game-centric live-streaming platform in China known for its strong presence in mobile esports. Backed by YY and Tencent, Huya is the main competitor to Douyu.

League of Legends: Wild Rift is taking the game to smartphones, but mobile MOBA games are already popular in China and Southeast Asia

Here's an odd idea: How about a smart speaker that teaches you to play China's biggest game? Tencent released a smart speaker in the shape of a character from Honor of Kings, known as Arena of Valor in the West. It's a niche, sure, but with smart speakers struggling to find a use, perhaps something more targeted like this isn't a bad idea. (Though I'm going to be honest: This seems like a bad idea.)

Ninja isn't the only streamer making big bucks. Haitao “Haishi” Jiang made more than US$1.5 milion last year streaming himself playing Arena of Valor. Then he moved on to a different platform. The problem? He signed a contract that barred him from jumping ship. Now he needs to pay a fine many times more than what he made. It shows just how much is at stake in China's live-streaming market, where hundreds of millions of viewers tune in each year to watch esports tournaments and game streams.

Honor of Kings, known as Arena of Valor outside of China, belongs to a genre completely different from mobile hits like Fortnite and PUBG. But it hasn’t stopped Tencent from introducing a battle royale mode to their blockbuster game. It might be a good idea on paper, but is it actually fun to play? Josh's verdict: Yes and no.

An online entertainment giant in China, Tencent operates the hugely popular all-purpose app WeChat -- and the hit game Arena of Valor. It also owns the companies behind Clash of Clans and League of Legends.

Known as Honor of Kings in China, this Tencent game is one of the world’s most popular, with 200 million players. It’s a MOBA, like League of Legends -- but in bite-size form for mobile.
