Legion Of Merit kept finding after slipping four lengths clear upon straightening leading from gate three for a fourth win and first this season from 10 starts this term. Romantic Fantasy ran on nicely for second after a prominent run on the fence. He's a proven stayer and took full advantage of gate one. In an improved effort, Escape Route stayed on better for second after a pace-stalking run from gate 14. He appreciated the wet going. Darci Joy was eating into the ground late after making his run five back and one off the fence. He rarely produces a bad run over the 2,000m. Special Hedge whacked on one paced after a handy run. It was a better effort on his latest form. Invincible Missile made some ground late after making his run four from the rear. Post-time favourite Sharpen Bright got going late without threatening from behind midfield. He did not appear to enjoy the wet ground. Early favourite Reach Goal never landed a blow after making his run from midfield on the fence following a stable transfer. Like the latter, he appeared to struggle on the yielding ground.

Horse No 3 DARCI JOY (E161) J McDonald Shortly after the start was crowded and then from a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Horse No 4 MISTER DAPPER (H376) A Atzeni Jumped awkwardly.

Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 5 JUMBO FORTUNE (G195) B Shinn After the 300 Metres raced tight to the inside of GOLD TACK which shifted in.

Again near the 100 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when racing tight between GOLD TACK and REACH GOAL, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Horse No 6 REACH GOAL (G067) Z Purton Jumped only fairly.

After the race, Z Purton reported that whilst his mount did not appreciate the "Yielding" track conditions, it had coughed after the race.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, REACH GOAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
