Recap by phillip woo

Show Respect took control 150m out after travelling one off the rail in better than midfield for a first win at his 12th local start. He had shown improvement. Keen Unity ran on strongly with two wider out for second after a patient ride two from the rear. It was a vastly improved run at his third run this season for his new trainer. Joy Of Spring closed nicely for third after settling second last from a wide draw. It was a good effort trying the Valley 1,650m for the first time following a third last start over 1,400m. Punted late, Brave Witness ran on steadily for fourth after travelling on the rail in midfield. He's shown improvement to fill the frame in two of his past three starts following a step up to the Valley 1,650m. Mr Aladdin had his chance after a prominent run on the fence but only plodded when asked for an effort. Atomic Beauty ran out of gas over the last 100m after rushing to the lead 50m out following a wide run without cover. He had an excuse. Favourite Sturdy Ruby never fired when push came to shove after settling in midfield. It was a disappointing effort after seconds in two prior starts.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven : (500) - MA WAN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

Horse No 1 I KEEP WINNING (H400) C L Chau Approaching the 350 Metres lay out and was awkwardly positioned behind MAYHEM.

The performance of I KEEP WINNING, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, I KEEP WINNING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 2 NOT A FEW (J109) L Ferraris Bumped at the start.

In the early stages raced keenly and near the 1000 Metres was steadied and shifted behind THE CONCENTRATION to obtain cover.

Horse No 3 SHOW RESPECT (H138) H Bentley Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 4 STURDY RUBY (H207) Z Purton When questioned, Z Purton stated that after striking interference approaching the 1400 Metres STURDY RUBY raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages.

He added as a result STURDY RUBY was left without a finishing effort in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 JOY OF SPRING (H383) B Avdulla Shifted in at the start, was bumped and became unbalanced.

Was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages from a wide barrier.

After the race, B Avdulla stated that when improving into a tight run to the inside of KEEN UNITY approaching the 400 Metres JOY OF SPRING lay in and away from that runner, made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.

Horse No 6 MR ALADDIN (H386) K Teetan Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.

Horse No 7 MAYHEM (H226) A Atzeni Approaching the 200 Metres lay in and away from SHOW RESPECT and brushed the hindquarters of ATOMIC BEAUTY.

After the race, A Atzeni reported that his mount travelled too keenly and as a result did not finish the race off in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 8 ATOMIC BEAUTY (H066) Y L Chung Raced wide and without cover until near the 700 Metres when it was ridden forward to obtain the lead.

Brushed on the hindquarters approaching the 200 Metres.

Horse No 9 BRAVE WITNESS (H425) K De Melo Jumped awkwardly and then bumped with MR ALADDIN.

Horse No 11 THE CONCENTRATION (H465) M F Poon After travelling a short distance was steadied when racing tight between I KEEP WINNING and MAYHEM.

Approaching the 1400 Metres STURDY RUBY (Z Purton) improved to the inside of SHOW RESPECT (H Bentley) as that runner was being shifted in, resulting in STURDY RUBY being checked to avoid the heels of SHOW RESPECT and being taken in, crowding THE CONCENTRATION which was also checked.

The Stewards found that STURDY RUBY improving to the inside of SHOW RESPECT had significantly contributed to the incident occurring.

Both Z Purton and H Bentley were advised to exercise more care.

Horse No 12 KEEN UNITY (G298) M L Yeung Shortly after the start raced tight between ATOMIC BEAUTY and STURDY RUBY.

Was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.
