Recap by phillip woo

After getting a lovely run in the box seat, Samarkand zipped through near the inside to take control 50m out and ring up a third win at the Valley this season. He should remain competitive up in grade off a light weight next time out. Favourite Sturdy Ruby found one too good after poking his head in front near the 100m marker following a prominent run. He keeps promising without delivering on a win line. Atomic Beauty stalked the pace outside Dragon Star, went for home 500m out and ended third. It was another honest performance. Punted late, Dragon Star gradually faded in the closing stages after dictating the pace as expected from gate three. He continues to hold his form well. Royal Pride stayed on to finish next best after travelling wide without cover behind midfield. Gold Tack made a mild bid after settling one off the rail in midfield. His ability is limited. Yeaboi made late ground without threatening the leaders after biding his time in second last from gate 12. Brave Witness was stopping 100m from home after taking off 700m out.
