Racing Incident Report
Race Eight : (81) - CHA KWO LING HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters
Horse No 1 NOT USUAL STAR (G396) C L Chau Near the 300 Metres was directed to the outside of GALLANT CROWN to obtain clear running.
Near the 150 Metres was checked when crowded by GALLANT CROWN (M L Yeung) which shifted out and made contact with NOT USUAL STAR and TORONADO PHANTOM (A Badel) which shifted in whilst being ridden along.
Whilst the Stewards accepted that the shift out from GALLANT CROWN had contributed to the interference, A Badel was reprimanded and advised he must stop riding and straighten his mounts when they commence to shift ground when not clear.
M L Yeung was advised to exercise more care.
After the race, C L Chau stated that his mount jumped very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
He added that it was his intention to take up a forward position, but was unable to do so because of the manner in which NOT USUAL STAR jumped tonight.
Horse No 2 ORIENTAL SMOKE (E467) L Currie Near the 450 Metres was momentarily crowded between GALLANT WAKING which shifted out slightly and TORONADO PHANTOM.
Horse No 3 GALLANT WAKING (G165) C Y Ho Jumped only fairly.
Horse No 4 JOLLY RULER (E346) H Bentley Was bumped approaching the 300 Metres when endeavouring to shift out to obtain clear running.
Horse No 5 LIGHTNING BOLT (G130) Z Purton Was sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 6 TORONADO PHANTOM (E300) A Badel At the 250 Metres was bumped by GALLANT WAKING which shifted out.
Horse No 7 SUGAR SUGAR (G016) H Bowman From the 700 Metres raced wide and without cover.
Shifted out near the 50 Metres and brushed LIGHTNING BOLT.
Was sent for sampling post-race.
Horse No 8 SWIFT ASCEND (H395) L Hewitson Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of L Hewitson, 7th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he will nonetheless be reminded of his obligation to ensure that he fully rides his mounts out to the finish of the race.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 9 AORAKI SUMMIT (H300) A Atzeni Was caught wide and without cover in the early stages and was obliged to be ridden forward to race outside the lead near the 700 Metres.
Approaching the 300 Metres, when under pressure, became badly unbalanced when crowded between JOLLY RULER which shifted out and made contact with AORAKI SUMMIT, and SUGAR SUGAR (H Bowman) which shifted in.
H Bowman was reprimanded and advised he must ensure he leaves sufficient racing room for runners to his inside.
A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Horse No 11 GALLANT CROWN (D359) M L Yeung Was bumped at the 150 Metres before being corrected by its rider.
Horse No 12 OUR LUCKY GLORY (G292) M Chadwick Was bumped shortly after the start by SUGAR SUGAR which shifted in.

Trainer D A Hayes was fined a sum of $3,000 for breaching the Track Work Regulations in that he worked three horses on the 1800 Metre gallop on the morning of Tuesday, 10 October 2023 when the Track Work Regulations stipulate that he is permitted to work two horses.

Addition to Racing Incidents Report from 4 October 2023 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 6 (71) SPEEDSTAR raced wide and without cover from the 700 Metres.

Favourite Lightning Bolt overhauled Sugar Sugar 50m out after his perfect run handy with cover. He has posted back-to-back victories since switching from Sha Tin's 1,400m to Happy Valley's 1,200m. He will remain in the grade and could win again. Sugar Sugar hit the lead about 200m out after racing prominently and wide without cover from gate nine but found one too good. He is a winner waiting to happen with seconds in each of his two starts this season. Gallant Waking got going from midfield to finish third without threatening the top two. He was good on his first competitive appearance since March. Street Conqueror bided his time second last from barrier 11 and closed well down the outside to finish the next best. It was another good run. Punted late, Jolly Ruler gradually faded after chasing the speed in the box seat. It was a pleasing run on his return from his May nosebleed. Our Lucky Glory ran on from towards the rear without threatening the placegetters. Punters should keep him safe if he drops into Class Four. Newcomer Swift Ascend retreated over the final 150m after rushing forward to lead 1,000m out.
