Encountered shot clear 200m out after his dream run in the box seat. He relished his change to blinkers and switch to the Valley after knocking on the door in his opening four Sha Tin runs. Favourite Gallant Waking made good ground late near the inside for second after his patient ride second last from his wide draw. He handled his rise in trip after posting two wins and one second from three starts over 1,200m. Prince Alex hit the line strongly to just deny Dynamic Spirit for third after biding his time behind midfield. It was another honest performance in his first Valley outing. Dynamic Spirit grudgingly gave way after rushing forward to assume the front from Good Buddy 600m out. He has produced an odd good run from his five starts. Villa Fionn came from near last and widest out to finish next best without threatening the top four. He should be hard to beat if he finds his way into Class Four. Pegasus General made some ground without menacing from behind midfield. Good Buddy did not have much left over the final 150m after working hard to lead. He prefers Sha Tin and races best when held up for a run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (250) - SAND MARTIN HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

On arrival at the Start, the Veterinary Officer reported that MASTER DELIGHT was lame in its left front leg and accordingly was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, MASTER DELIGHT was withdrawn by order of the Stewards.

Before being allowed to race again, MASTER DELIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

CAN'T GO WONG began awkwardly.

From a wide barrier, GALLANT WAKING began awkwardly and got its head up when being steadied with a view to being shifted across behind runners.

Also from wide barriers, PEGASUS GENERAL and INCANTO PREPARED were steadied in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail.

Passing the 1600 Metres, PUBLICIST raced tight between ENCOUNTERED and GOOD BUDDY which shifted in.

Then near the 1550 Metres, ENCOUNTERED shifted out and bumped PUBLICIST.

Approaching the 1300 Metres, DYNAMIC SPIRIT was left racing wide and without cover and was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 1100 Metres.

Also approaching the 1300 Metres, PUBLICIST was steadied away from the heels of GOOD BUDDY (H Bowman) which shifted in when not properly clear.

H Bowman was reprimanded and told to ensure that he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, PUBLICIST was bumped by ENCOUNTERED which attempted to shift out from behind GOOD BUDDY and improve between that horse and PUBLICIST.

When unable to improve to the outside of GOOD BUDDY, ENCOUNTERED was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse approaching the 500 Metres.

After the 500 Metres, CAN'T GO WONG was awkwardly placed behind ENCOUNTERED.

PEGASUS GENERAL, which was following, was steadied away from behind that horse in consequence.

Near the 450 Metres, ENCOUNTERED shifted out and bumped PUBLICIST.

After the 400 Metres, GALLANT CROWN (K Teetan) raced tight inside PRINCE ALEX as GALLANT CROWN attempted to improve to the outside of PUBLICIST.

Then at the entrance to the Straight, GALLANT CROWN shifted out across the heels of PRINCE ALEX, resulting in GALLANT CROWN being checked.

In this incident PRINCE ALEX became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by GALLANT CROWN.

After the race, K Teetan said that his mount was travelling only fairly rounding the Home Turn and then after being checked away from the heels of PRINCE ALEX did not finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection of GALLANT CROWN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Passing the 300 Metres, INCANTO PREPARED was shifted in away from the heels of PUBLICIST.

After the race, H Bowman attributed GOOD BUDDY's failure to finish the race off over the concluding stages to the amount of work that he had to do on his mount in order to cross runners after the 1300 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of GOOD BUDDY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of PUBLICIST immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

ENCOUNTERED and GALLANT WAKING were sent for sampling.
