Cheerful Days responded nicely down the outside to get up in the late stages to win going away and geared down after a patient ride third last carrying top weight. He's really flying with a fourth win from his past five starts and should remain competitive up in grade off a light weight. Gallant Crown did everything right but found one too smart after hitting the front 150m out following a prominent run one off the fence. He's racing well and should be saluting shortly. Maldives ran on steadily to fill a placing after a rails run in midfield. He's as honest as the day is long. Red Majesty found a few too good in the run to the wire despite setting slow fractions leading from an outside draw. It was another honest effort over this Valley trip but he is finding life harder at this level. Presence just failed to fill the frame after a one-off trip behind midfield. He's heading in the right direction and might be crying out for 1,800m or even 2,000m. Nearly Fine came from near last and down the outside to just miss a pay slip. He's gone all right in back-to-back runs in this grade following a near win in Class Four and, like the latter, might require a longer trip. Incanto Prepared will sleep well after a torrid run in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (336) - LOK FU HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650Meters

GALLANT CROWN lost its right hind plate on jumping.

PRESENCE began only fairly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of GALLANT CROWN (J Moreira) which shifted in.

J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

From wide barriers, SMOOTHIES, NEARLY FINE and PERFECT MARYKNOLL were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CHEERFUL DAYS shifted out after racing tight outside PRESENCE.

INCANTO PREPARED, which was racing outside the heels of CHEERFUL DAYS, got its head up and shifted out abruptly, resulting in INCANTO PREPARED becoming unbalanced and hampering NEARLY FINE which also became unbalanced after being bumped by INCANTO PREPARED.

After this, INCANTO PREPARED travelled wide and without cover.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, CHEERFUL DAYS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRESENCE, shifted out and inconvenienced INCANTO PREPARED.

C Y Ho (PRESENCE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of INCANTO PREPARED, resulting in that horse being crowded for room and having to be checked when losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled inside CHEERFUL DAYS.

C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 9 February 2022 and to expire on Sunday, 13 February 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, Jockey Ho was fined $30,000.

Approaching the 150 Metres, MALDIVES and PRESENCE were crowded for room inside CHEERFUL DAYS (Z Purton) which shifted in.

Z Purton was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.

Close to the finishing line, PRESENCE raced tight outside MALDIVES.

A veterinary inspection of INCANTO PREPARED and SMOOTHIES immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CHEERFUL DAYS and GALLANT CROWN were sent for sampling.

9 January 2022 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 10 (327) The Stewards tonight interviewed Trainer J Size regarding the improved performance of HEZA BEAUTY in this race.

Mr Size said HEZA BEAUTY has a well-documented history in respect of barrier issues and which has resulted in the horse having to give up too much start in a number of its races.

He said he had been reluctant to add the blinkers to HEZA BEAUTY in the past as he believed that this piece of equipment would not assist the horse in behaving better in the barriers.

He said however that at its most recent starts HEZA BEAUTY had improved its barrier manners and given the horse had raced disappointingly in those races, he believed that HEZA BEAUTY may benefit from the addition of blinkers at this stage of its career.

He said in this race HEZA BEAUTY began very well and due to the blinkers was able to obtain a good position in the early stages without having to be made use of.

He said because of these factors HEZA BEAUTY was then able to finish off the race better than it had been at its recent starts.
