Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Xiang Yin kept on gamely after racing to the lead near the 300m out rounding the final bend three from the right following a two-to-three deep run better than midfield. It's taken him a while to get a first win but he's now gone back-to-back despite a return to Class Three and he might be able to get away with another shortly. Favourite Maldives ran on well for second when a run finally presented itself 250m out following a handy run on the fence. It was a good effort first-up this term and remains one to follow. Hall Of Champ made good ground late near the inside after getting held up for a run until the 200m to fill a placing. It was another honest effort. Gallant Crown kept on all right for fourth chasing the speed one off the fence from a tricky gate. He ran with merit trying the 1,600m for the first time after some sterling form over the extended mile at the city track. Win Win made a steady bid near the outside after a rails run behind midfield to earn a minor cheque. He'll be a force to be reckoned with shortly in Class Four. Third favourite Gorytus stopped badly 150m out after getting pestered to his outside by Tianchi Monster through quick early fractions. He might be better ridden a bit quieter in the run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (118) - THE CHINESE GENERAL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1600Meters

GORYTUS shifted in at the start and bumped XIANG YIN.

HEZA BEAUTY began only fairly.

SUPER OASIS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped HALL OF CHAMP.

SUPER OASIS was then crowded for room between HALL OF CHAMP and MR ALDAN which got its head on the side and shifted out.

After this, from wide barriers, HALL OF CHAMP and SUPER OASIS were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

MR ALDAN made the Home Turn awkwardly.

GALLANT CROWN had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

MALDIVES was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 350 Metres bumped the hindquarters of TIANCHI MONSTER when improving into very tight running between that horse and GORYTUS.

HALL OF CHAMP, which was following MALDIVES, was held up behind that horse in consequence.

For the majority of the race, FEARLESS FIRE travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, H Bentley stated that, GORYTUS, when unable to obtain cover, travelled too keenly in the early and middle stages and because of this was not able to finish off the race as it did at its most recent start when the horse was able to race behind runners.

A veterinary inspection of GORYTUS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of MR ALDAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

XIANG YIN and MALDIVES were sent for sampling.
