Recap by phillip woo

Harmony N Home closed off nicely with three wider out to grab victory 60m out after a one-off run better than midfield. The win wasn't a surprise after filling the frame in two of six earlier runs at this level following a first up win in Class Four this term. Joyful Union ran on well to grab second in deep stretch after a rail run in midfield. He's returned to form in his past two starts and can bob up at any moment. Well-backed, First Responder found a couple too good after hitting the front 150m out following a one-off handy run. He can produce an odd good run now and then. Stanley Park just lost a placing late after handing up the lead to Circuit Seven near the 700m. He continues to race but keeps finding a few too good in four of his past five following a win in October. Wood On Fire made a steady bid along the inside to earn a minor cheque after settling in the second half of the field. It wasn't a bad run first time in Class Three. Stock Legend was running on late without menacing after biding his time fourth from the rear. Like the latter, it was a positive performance stepping into Class Three for the first time.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (534) - FUNG MO HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

AURORA PEGASUS was withdrawn on 22.3.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter CIRCUIT SEVEN.

MAJESTIC GOLD was withdrawn on 23.3.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front tendon enlargement) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter SIMPLY FLUKE (A Badel).

Before being allowed to race again, AURORA PEGASUS and MAJESTIC GOLD will both be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

WOOD ON FIRE bounded in the air at the start and lost ground.

FIRST RESPONDER and HARMONY N HOME bumped at the start.

This resulted in FIRST RESPONDER shifting in and bumping the hindquarters of JOYFUL UNION.

FIRST RESPONDER and HARMONY N HOME then raced tight between JOYFUL UNION and STANLEY PARK which shifted in.

MERIDIAN GENIUS was tightened for room on jumping between ARES and STOCK LEGEND which shifted out.

After this, both STOCK LEGEND (K Teetan) and MERIDIAN GENIUS were steadied to obtain cover.

When questioned, K Teetan stated that it was anticipated that SOARING TOWER, which had drawn immediately inside STOCK LEGEND, would be ridden positively which would allow his mount the opportunity to follow that horse from a wide barrier.

He said when SOARING TOWER did not begin well, he allowed his mount to improve forward of that horse and then commenced to shift across with runners as he believed that being ridden along in the early stages may have resulted in STOCK LEGEND being left racing wide and possibly without cover.

He said making the turn near the 1000 Metres he was able to obtain a trailing position behind FLYING SWORD which was further back in the field than had been anticipated.

CIRCUIT SEVEN began awkwardly and then after being ridden along to obtain a forward position travelled keenly in the middle stages.

After the 800 Metres, MERIDIAN GENIUS was left racing wide and without cover.

Passing the 275 Metres, JOYFUL UNION raced tight between FIRST RESPONDER and ARES, both of which shifted slight ground.

In this incident, JOYFUL UNION bumped the hindquarters of ARES, resulting in ARES shifting out further and causing JOYFUL UNION to be awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse passing the 250 Metres.

JOYFUL UNION then shifted out near the 200 Metres and bumped the hindquarters of FIRST RESPONDER.

Approaching the 150 Metres, SIMPLY FLUKE briefly raced in restricted room inside CIRCUIT SEVEN which shifted in.

After the race, M Chadwick (FIRST RESPONDER) reported that his saddle shifted back over the concluding stages which placed him at a disadvantage in riding his mount out.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SOARING TOWER, J Moreira stated that the horse, which was having its first race start at Happy Valley tonight, became worked up prior to arriving at the barriers and then after being placed in the barriers was fractious.

He said this resulted in SOARING TOWER missing the start and having to race back in the field.

He said at no stage of the race did SOARING TOWER travel comfortably and after shifting his mount to the outside of runners rounding the Home Turn was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of SOARING TOWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SOARING TOWER, favourite for tonight's race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SOARING TOWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT SEVEN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SOARING TOWER, HARMONY N HOME and JOYFUL UNION were sent for sampling.
