Firming favourite Killer Bee took control 450m out to win with something in hand prompting the pace on the stand side. It was a solid debut performance and the future is bright. Jade Phoenix kept on gamely after setting the early pace to just hold off Take What You Need for second in a good first effort over the straight 1,000m. He's honest as the day is long but has trouble winning. Take What You Need stayed on well better than midfield on the far side to just miss second. He looks a winner waiting to happen at this level. Newcomer Go Go Sixteen closed well to fill the frame after travelling second last in the middle of the track after a slow start. He might be useful when the penny drops with him. Sight Hero kept on one-paced tracking the speed. He's shown hints of ability in his four starts. Baltic Whisper failed to land a blow under the whip following a handy run on the grandstand side. It was another disappointing performance.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (498) - PENG CHAU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Meters

Just prior to the start being effected, DARCI JOY became fractious and got its head down, resulting in its rider, N Callan, reaching out with his left arm to maintain balance.

This resulted in DARCI JOY beginning very awkwardly and N Callan becoming unbalanced.

When unbalanced, DARCI JOY shifted in and bumped ZACIAN.

TAKE WHAT YOU NEED shifted in at the start, resulting in DURHAM STAR being bumped and taken in onto EASY FORTUNE which became unbalanced after being bumped by DURHAM STAR.

GO GO SIXTEEN lost ground when crowded for room on jumping between JADE PHOENIX and HOLYSHOWCASING which was taken out by SIGHT HERO.

KILLER BEE and QIPAO BOSS bumped at the start.

BALTIC WHISPER began only fairly.

Near the 700 Metres, LUCKY ONE was steadied when crowded for room between BALTIC WHISPER and ZACIAN which was taken out by KILLER BEE after being taken out by JADE PHOENIX (M F Poon) which shifted out when not properly clear.

M F Poon was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance in similar circumstances.

Passing the 600 Metres, STORMTROUPER momentarily raced in restricted room between QIPAO BOSS which lay out and DARCI JOY which at this time shifted out away from the heels of JADE PHOENIX after being crossed by that horse.

Approaching the 400 Metres, DARCI JOY was crowded for room outside QIPAO BOSS which got its head on the side and shifted out away from SIGHT HERO.

Then passing the 400 Metres, SIGHT HERO shifted in, resulting in TAKE WHAT YOU NEED being inconvenienced.

SIGHT HERO (C Schofield), which was racing greenly, then shifted out, resulting in QIPAO BOSS being taken out, causing DARCI JOY to be checked away from the heels of QIPAO BOSS.

C Schofield was advised that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of SIGHT HERO had played a significant role in this incident, nonetheless he was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Passing the 400 Metres, STORMTROUPER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of QIPAO BOSS.

Approaching the 300 Metres, DARCI JOY got its head on the side and lay out across the heels of ZACIAN.

DARCI JOY (N Callan) was then corrected by its rider and shifted in and in doing so bumped STORMTROUPER which became badly unbalanced.

N Callan was advised that the Stewards accepted that the racing manners of DARCI JOY, which was having its first race start today, had contributed to this incident, however, he was reprimanded and advised to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.

LUCKY ONE had some difficulty obtaining clear running after the 300 Metres.

ZACIAN raced tight outside QIPAO BOSS passing the 250 Metres.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that LUCKY ONE had bled from both nostrils.

A veterinary inspection of QIPAO BOSS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, QIPAO BOSS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

KILLER BEE and JADE PHOENIX were sent for sampling.
