A middle-aged man has been hospitalised following a knife attack by a gang of assailants in the early hours in Hong Kong’s New Territories.

Police received a report around 1.29am on Sunday that a 63-year-old man, surnamed Pang, had been attacked in Sheung Shui by three men wielding knives and “hard objects”, a source familiar with the case said.

The suspects then jumped into a private vehicle and fled the scene.

After regaining his composure, the victim made his own way to North District Hospital in Sheung Shui for treatment, the source added.

Authorities said Pang was in a stable condition in hospital as of 11.55am.

Police said a preliminary investigation found that the victim did not know the three suspects and the cause of the attack was not yet known.

The Tai Po district criminal investigation team is handling the case.

Separately, another wounding case was reported at around 1am in Tuen Mun, with five men attacking a 55-year-old man with steel bars and knives at a restaurant on Shun Tat Street.

The suspects fled the scene in a truck, while the victim was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital.

Police later arrested a 41-year-old man at Fu Tai Estate in Tuen Mun in connection with the case. The force said its investigation was continuing.

According to a preliminary investigation, the victim had a dispute with the arrested man over an “attitude problem”.
