Hong Kong police are searching for the driver of a black car who ran into a group of pedestrians near a fresh fruit wholesale market in Yau Ma Tei before fleeing the scene.

Police said on Sunday the incident took place shortly after 11pm on Saturday and left two men and two women, aged 28 to 31, with minor injuries. The victims were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.

The car was travelling along Waterloo Road in the direction of Tai Kok Tsui when the driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle and struck the group of passers-by outside a Yau Ma Tei Fruit Market stall at No 21 Waterloo Road.

CCTV footage circulating online shows the vehicle briefly stopped after hitting the people and some pallets of fruits, before appearing to reverse and slam into some wooden pallets and then driving away.

A batch of nectarines, said to be worth about HK$5,000 (US$638), were reportedly destroyed in the crash.

Police are investigating the incident and hunting for the driver and the car.

The force said no arrests had been made as of Sunday afternoon.
