The mother of slain model Abby Choi Tin-fung has shared how the pain of losing her daughter will stay with her forever, while thanking hundreds of friends and relatives who paid their respects at a funeral in Hong Kong last week.

Cheung Yin-fa expressed her grief on mainland Chinese video platform Douyin on Saturday, uploading a five-minute clip that featured images of mourners attending the pink-themed ceremony for Choi at Po Fook Memorial Hall in Tai Wai.

“My darling is benevolent and kind-hearted. In the eyes of all relatives and friends, she is a good daughter, a good daughter-in-law, a good wife, and a good mother,” Cheung wrote in the post.

“This sudden, dreadful news has made me experience life and death, and heartbreaking feelings. My gentle and lovable darling left in her prime. This pain of loss will be engraved in my heart indefinitely.”

Choi’s funeral service was held over two days on June 18 and 19, almost four months after the partial remains of the 28-year-old were discovered in a village house in Tai Po. Her ex-husband Alex Kwong Kong-chi, his parents and brother have been charged in connection with the killing.

Unlike traditional Chinese funerals where black and white are normally used, the memorial hall was extensively decorated in pink, said to be Choi’s favourite colour.

Several huge portraits of the socialite were displayed inside the hall with wreaths from friends and relatives placed underneath. They included ones from friend Moka Fang and her superstar husband Aaron Kwok Fu-shing.

The model’s mother said a thousand mourners bade farewell to Choi at the funeral home last week, expressing her gratitude for their presence, as well as police’s efforts in investigating the case.

The video uploaded by Cheung shows hundreds of family members and friends dressed in black lining up inside the memorial hall and outside the funeral parlour. The mourners are seen bowing and burning incense sticks to pay tribute to Choi.

The post has received more than 8,700 likes and 2,800 comments, with some internet users sending condolences.

Cheung in March sought a court injunction to forbid Choi’s former father-in-law Kwong Kau from selling a HK$73 million (US$9.3 million) luxury flat her daughter allegedly bought under his name in October 2019.

The writ sought to declare Choi as the beneficial owner of the 1,820 sq ft flat in the exclusive Kadoorie Hill neighbourhood in Ho Man Tin.

Choi’s former husband, Alex Kwong, 28, his father, Kwong Kau, 65, and elder brother Anthony Kwong Kong-kit, 32, had been remanded in custody on a joint murder charge.

Kwong’s mother, Jenny Li Sui-heung, 63, who has been charged with perverting the course of justice in relation to the case, was also remanded after failing in her second attempt to secure bail last month.
