Cartier re-creates a dazzling diamond necklace for the movie ‘Ocean’s 8’

Cartier has re-created a legendary diamond necklace for the heist action movie Ocean’s 8. The luxury brand is the exclusive jewellery partner of the film.

Anne Hathaway stars as Daphne Kluger and James Biberi plays bodyguard Yuri in ‘Ocean’s 8’.
The film’s ultimate heist is this diamond necklace, worn by Anne Hathaway. The necklace pays homage to Cartier’s most influential creative director, Jeanne Toussaint. It was re-created for the film in the brand’s high jewellery workshops at Rue de la Paix in Paris because the original jewel no longer exists.

Cartier had kept design sketches and photographs of the piece and its owner in its archives. The original necklace was designed by Jacques Cartier for the Maharaja of Nawanagar in 1931. It included the Queen of Holland – a blue-white 136.25ct diamond. The necklace was described as “the finest cascade of coloured diamonds in the world”.

For the movie, the Toussaint necklace was adjusted to Hathaway’s measurements and reduced by 15 to 20 per cent of the original size. The updated necklace is embellished with colourless diamonds and zirconium oxides, mounted on white gold.
