This year has been the year of video. There isn’t a corner of the globe that hasn’t been affected by Covid-19 and as we observed social distancing and restricted travel, technology has kept us going. Video not only connected us to friends, family and work, but as country after country locked down, the creation and consumption of video content went through the roof.

While 2020 might have been memorable for the worst of reasons, at STYLE our silver lining is the fact that our YouTube community has grown 10-fold. And we’ve enjoyed engaging with you as much as you’ve enjoyed watching our videos – from what we can see.

So as a reminder of some of the year’s brighter spots, here’s a list of our biggest video hits of 2020. We can’t wait to see you back in 2021!

Interviews

In 2019, our interviews with actors Jessica Jung and Lawrence Wong – Hai Lan Cha from Story of Yanxi Palace made your top 10 – this year you’re gone for a more combative encounter with Bruce Lee fan Zhang Weili.

This channel collaboration with Mu Shin Martial Culture gave us an exclusive interview with Zhang, China’s first UFC champion – and you couldn’t get enough of it.

Celebrities

STYLE has got you covered when it comes to everything you didn’t know about your favourite celebs. Whether it’s Blanket Jackson buying a multimillion dollar home or Madonna’s controversial Covid-19 comments, we served you the tea. However, there was one celebrity – or should we say child of celebrities – you just couldn’t get enough of, and that was Hollywood royal Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.

How these celebrity children are breaking gender boundaries

Royalty

The other names you couldn’t get enough of were those perennial favourites – actual royalty. We always figured that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s new charity named after their son Archie or Prince Charles testing positive for Covid-19 would make our list of most watched royal videos this year, but it was this sneak peek into the queen’s royal jewellery box that was watched more than any other in 2020.

And it wasn’t just the British royals you wanted to know about – you were also endlessly curious about Thai Royal Noble Consort Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi.

What’s hot in Korea

In the world of K-pop, 2020 was undoubtedly the year of BTS and Blackpink. BTS broke record after record this year while Blackpink brought us some of most exciting collaborations that the pop world has seen. Some of our overall most watched content was from your favourite K-pop and K-drama personalities, including: Song Joong-ki’s top five roles, five things you didn’t know about BTS’ Jimin, eight Korean drama hallyu actors in their 30s making a comeback and five things you didn’t know about Bae Suzy.

But the winner for the most watched “what’s hot in Korea” video goes to … you guessed it … when BTS decided to release their new album “Map of the Soul 7”.

Crazy rich list

Here at STYLE, we’re all about appreciating the finer things in life, whether it’s being in the kitchen with seven Michelin-starred chefs or learning how to eat and pair caviar correctly.
Just like you, we can’t get enough of peeking into the lives of the super wealthy either. We watched like hawks when Tien Nguyen – Vietnam’s richest heiress – got Covid-19 and fled London Fashion Week in a US$360,000 chartered plane, and when we discovered how Blackpink’s Lisa spends her US$10 million net worth.  But there is one family that stands head-and-shoulders above the rest – the Ambanis, Asia’s richest. You were dying to find out more about India’s real-life crazy rich Asians – Isha, Nita, Akash and Mukesh – and to get a glimpse into their Antilia mansion.

How the Ambani kids’ upbringing was stricter than you’d expect

Red carpets

This year’s awards season was pre-pandemic, luckily for us, and we brought you the good, the bad and the ugly from the Oscars, the SAG awards and everything in between.
Below are the top two red carpet stories that made our list for the year – but if want even more glitz and glam that just can’t be recreated virtually, we suggest you check out our full playlist. Here’s hoping we see all our favourite stars return to the red carpet in 2021!

Runways

With the year we’ve had, it’s hard to believe that back in March you could still attend fashion weeks in person and watch live runways. A lot has changed in the months since … but that might be why you loved these videos so much. This year, our YouTube channel brought you runway shows from fashion’s biggest designer brands as soon as the last model walked off and the designer took a bow.

There were several designers featuring in our most watched videos of the year: Saint Laurent, Fendi and Gucci were all among your favourites from our fashion week playlist.

It was the two below, however, that not only became our most watched videos of the year – but of all time! And let’s just say the 300-plus comments you left were a mixed bag – some of you left rave reviews while others wished Karl Lagerfeld would come back as one of the walking dead!

It’s pretty tough to beat a Chanel runway, but that’s exactly what Dolce & Gabbana did with their fall/winter collection. You loved it so much that it became our first to reach half a million views, making it our most watched video not only of 2020 – but ever.
