STYLE Edit: Gem of a handbag from Givenchy plays with soft lines and bold designs
Clare Waight Keller made headlines in May this year when Meghan Markle stepped out in the designer’s creation for her wedding to Prince Harry. The wedding dress effectively made Keller a household name, but she hasn’t been resting on her laurels since. The artistic director of Givenchy has just released what the brand hopes will be the new “It” bag for women – the GEM.
This new collection, created for the autumn/winter season, blends soft lines with bold designs, tradition with modernity. Fans of the brand’s GV3 bag will like that this line. One style showcases smooth goatskin finished to a glossy sheen, and quilted with zigzag embroidery, inspired by the vintage losange pattern found in the maison’s archives. The bag also features the brand’s traditional “double-G” clasp.
For a touch of fun, Keller also included on each bag a long tassel, which hangs from a ring that allows for customisation with personal charms and accessories. The tassels are composed of brightly finished, faceted spheres for an extra boost of bling.
The GEM is available in five colours – including aubergine, terracotta and green forest – and four more styles, such as the losange quilted leather and the exotic mix of matte and shiny python. The bag can be worn from day to night, as the chain and leather shoulder strap can be detached to transform it into a clutch. The GEM, true to its namesake, is a treasure for fashionable women today.
