At least 43 gyms in the Planet Fitness chain across the US received bomb threats after a right-wing social media influencer posted transphobic comments about its rules, reported the The Guardian on April 13. “The backlash started with the posting on X [of] a video of a woman saying that there was ‘a man shaving in a women’s bathroom’ at her Planet Fitness location in Fairbanks, Alaska,” the report stated.

As of April 24, this number had risen to 53, media watchdog group Media Matters reported, adding that this ongoing campaign against Planet Fitness, by the X account Libs of TikTok, demands “a boycott in retaliation for the gym’s trans-inclusive locker room policy”. Media Matters has also noted a trend of violent threats against various institutions targeted by the account.

So what, exactly, is Libs of TikTok? Hiding behind anonymous avatars and handles, the account directs hate towards the LGBTQ+ community, its conservative views gaining momentum as famous names like former US President Donald Trump offer their support.

Then the face behind the account was exposed – her real identity finally revealed after an article explained who she was and the social media handles she had used. It’s fair to say that the person behind the pseudonym, Chaya Raichik, has mastered the art of being a hater on the internet.

Here is everything you need to know about Raichik, aka Libs of TikTok.

Raichik is a Los Angeles-born 29-year-old who was raised in an orthodox Jewish home and went to an all-girls Jewish school.

Before she transitioned into a full time content creator, Raichik had a career selling property in New York. She now has celebrity status because of the impact her social media accounts have had on the national dialogue about the LGBTQ+ community.

Per The Washington Post in April 2022, software developer Travis Brown revealed the X accounts previously used by Raichik until late February 2021 – after Raichik had been hurling hate towards the LGBTQ+ community while hiding behind online anonymity for months. The X accounts could be clearly linked to Raichik as her name was found on the libsoftiktok.us domain registration, per the article.

Raichik is a proud right-wing activist. While she is widely admired in conservative circles, she is considered persona non-grata by the progressive left. This is largely the result of her Libs of TikTok and other social media comments.

What is “Libs of TikTok”?

Libs of TikTok, sometimes abbreviated as LoTT or LTT, is a handle for various right-wing and anti-LGBTQ+ social media accounts run by Raichik.

Raichik and LoTT gained popularity when she started getting support from podcasts such as Joe Rogan’s The Joe Rogan Experience, leading to mainstream recognition. She also has the seal of approval from former US president Trump and Elon Musk for her “free speech”, per Forbes.

She has written a kids’ book

Raichik wrote No More Secrets: The Candy Cavern, a book she self-published and launched in February 2023.

The book is about Rose, a primary school-age lamb whose new teacher Mr Wooly is more interested in giving her sweets than teaching her how to count and read. As the 40-page story progresses, it becomes clear that the teacher is actually a wolf.

The book, apparently inspired by her outlook on life, is apparently meant to “help protect kids from left-wing indoctrination”. per Advocate.

According to US media, Raichik wants to extend her influence through a position in politics. She told the publication she was “planning something big” in her mission to bar allegedly pornographic books from schools.

Who is Sarah Huckabee Sanders, former press sec and potential Trump VP?

In January, the author was named a member of an Oklahoma library media advisory committee, per The Oklahoman. The move caused outrage with the accusations that Raichik was not qualified for the job, as she has no qualifications or work experience in either education or library science. Much of the criticism was led by politician Pete Buttigieg’s husband Chasten Buttigieg. The two blasted each other on X, leading to a full war of words on the social media site.

Raichek’s messages on X have reportedly incited violence in real life. Per Human Rights Campaign, a US NGO, Raichek’s Libs of TikTok posts have been “linked to harassment and bomb threats against children’s hospitals, medical providers, schools, teachers, drag performances and more”.

And this was before the very recent 50-plus bomb threats on the Planet Fitness chain said to be inspired by LoTT’s posts.

A family woman?

Raichik is not married, per Independent Women’s Forum.

Having come from a big family herself, the conservative has shared that her passion for kids’ welfare comes from her “about 400 first cousins” and the experience of working with children when she was a teacher and camp counsellor.
