Hailey Bieber seemed to shut down rumours about her marriage to Justin Bieber being on the rocks when she shared a birthday post with her mother-in-law, Pattie Mallette, earlier this month.

“Happy birthday to my beautiful mama in law,” she captioned a selfie shared on her Instagram Stories on April 3, per People. “Having another amazing mom is all anyone could ask for.”

The news comes as rumours continued to spread online that there was trouble in paradise for the famous pair.

Hailey first refuted the divorce speculation on her Instagram Stories in March when she wrote: “Just FYI the stories and constant ‘blind items’ I see on TikTok are 100 per cent of the time wrong made out of thin air … Come from the land of delusion …” she wrote, as reported by People. “So I know it may be fun feeding into these stories but just know they’re always false xx sorry to spoil it.”

Hailey, 27, and Justin’s mum Pattie Mallette, 49, often show affection for one another on social media. Of course Mallette also shares photos of herself with her pop star son – though the pair have had their ups and downs over the years.

Here’s everything we know about Justin Bieber’s mum:

How old was Pattie Mallette when she had Justin Bieber?

Justin Bieber’s parents Pattie Mallette and Jeremy Bieber were both just 18 years old when they had their son on March 1, 1994, per People. According to the magazine, the two never married, and ended up calling it quits a few months after Justin was born.

While Mallette didn’t have any other children after Justin, Jeremy did. Per People, he had a daughter Jazmyn and son Jaxon with his ex Erin Wagner, and welcomed daughter Bay in 2018 with his new wife Chelsey Rebelo. Rebelo also has a daughter named Allie from a previous relationship. Jeremy married Rebelo in 2016, and Justin, who is now her stepson, served as a groomsman at the pair’s nuptials.

JB fans will already be aware of the fact that Mallette was the one who put her son on YouTube – the platform that would make him go viral and launch him to musical stardom at just 12 years old.

“I put up a little video on YouTube for grandma and some relatives to see, and the next thing we knew, all these strangers were clicking onto it, probably because they recognised the song,” Mallette said in an interview with Vanity Fair in 2011. “It was ‘Oh look, honey, you have a hundred views,’ Then ‘Oh wow, a thousand views.’… Next thing we knew, thousands and thousands of views. But it never once occurred to me that there would be a music career out of this.”

The Canadian native, who managed her son in the early stages of his career, went on to write an autobiography Nowhere But Up: The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom, in 2012.

“I’ve spent most of my adult life sifting through the tangled web of emotional wounds and the debris left by the darkness in my childhood,” she wrote in the first chapter. According to USA Today, the book details Mallette’s struggles with sexual and drug abuse during her youth. She also appears to have dabbled in film producing, and has a handful of entries on her IMDB profile.

Did she like Selena Gomez?

It seems Mallette has always liked Bieber’s ex, Selena Gomez, whom he dated on and off for eight years. In a 2012 interview with Us Weekly, she said, “I love Selena. She’s a sweetheart. What you see is how she is. She’s good for him. They’re good together. They’re adorable.”

However she felt about Gomez, it’s clear she’s also been extremely supportive of her daughter-in-law Hailey Bieber too.

According to People, Mallette and her son were estranged for two years around the time he was in the press for bad behaviour. In 2015, Bieber told Billboard that their relationship was “pretty non-existing”.

He told the publication: “I was distant because I was ashamed. I never wanted my mom to be disappointed in me and I knew she was. We spent some time not talking, so it takes time to rebuild that trust. She’s living in Hawaii now, so it’s hard, but getting better. She’s an amazing woman and I love her.”
