Feng shui tips to boost your love energy as Valentine’s Day draws near, for singles or couples

  • Whether you’re single and looking for love, or in a relationship and want to improve it, these tips from feng shui master Andrew Kwan could help you
  • There’s even advice for people who want to repel love energy from flowing to cheating partners

Tired of Tinder? If you’re feeling left out this Valentine’s Day and struggling to find Mr or Ms Right then feng shui, or Chinese geomancy, an ancient practice that claims to harmonise the energy between people and their environment, might help.

Even if your Chinese zodiac predicts a rough year ahead, feng shui is said to be able to balance those unlucky tides and boost aspects in your life such as health, wealth or love.

We asked feng shui master Andrew Kwan for some tips to help the singletons and lonely hearts of Hong Kong give their love life a boost this month.

This year, they’re in luck.

The most suitable day for setting up your feng shui ornaments this year is on the full moon, which is Lantern Day (February 5). This falls a full nine days before Valentine’s Day, giving ample time for the harmonising energy to work.

According to Kwan, there are two spots in your home where you can place elemental ornaments, such as flowers or candles, to invigorate your love life.

The first depends on your Chinese zodiac, as the love energy of different animals flows in from different directions.

For those whose zodiac is Monkey, Dragon or Rat, their direction is west. For Ox, Rooster and Snake, it is the south. For Tigers, Horses and Dogs, your direction is east and for Rabbits, Sheep and Pigs it’s the north.

So get your compass and work out where that direction is in your apartment or bedroom.

According to feng shui, these positions change every year, conforming to the zodiac sign.

“This year is the Year of the Rabbit, and because Rabbit is a zodiac that belongs in the east, so Tigers, Horses and Dogs have a good year in networking, friendships and love in general already,” Kwan says.

The second position for your ornaments depends on whether you want to attract female energy into your life or male energy.

Those who want to attract female energy should put their ornaments to the north, while for male energy the position is southwest.

Kwan recommends putting either a single flower or a bouquet of four fresh flowers in the two spots.

However, those who want to attract male energy have to be careful. According to Kwan, southwest is a direction that is associated with sickness.

“For those who place flowers to amplify that attraction, there’s a chance they will feel sick. If that happens, then remove them immediately.”

Kwan says these ornaments should only be left in place for a few days while the moon is full as any longer will start to bring in negative energy – which means taking them down before Valentine’s Day.

“You can keep placing the flowers in these directions every month when the moon is full if it doesn’t work the first time,” he says.

For those seeking the attention of a specific person, they can write their name, or a wish involving them, on a pink or white candle and light it under the full moon.

Because the candle is required to burn all the way down, it is better to use smaller candles rather than larger ones.

Candles and fresh flowers will work better for those who are single and want to attract love energy into their lives.

Those who are in a relationship already and want to improve it can place rose quartz or rhodochrosite in the four cardinal directions of their room or apartment for more long-term results.

Meanwhile, those who have a cheating spouse or partner and for some reason want to redeem the relationship should use black obsidian to repel unwanted love energy.

Place the black obsidian on the corresponding energy spots for your partner’s zodiac and whether you want to repel male or female energy from flowing in.
