Sesha skin whitener

What is it?

Sesha Skin Therapy was developed by a Taiwanese scientist and takes its name from the Putonghua word for 'hello'. Its manufacturer says it's a science-based, skin-care programme that aims to 'reveal beautiful skin by feeding and nourishing it'. The product's main feature is what's said to be a unique delivery system: permeation enhancement technology (Pet), which brings antioxidants, botanicals and vitamins to the skin's regenerative layers. Two of the products using this delivery system are skin-whitening creams, Cell White Fade Out Serum 10 and Cell White Fade Out Serum 15. Sesha also sells a Cell White Brightening Mask range that uses the same principal ingredient.

How are the products different from other lighteners?

They contain a whitening ingredient called arbutin, which studies show can decrease melanin production by 70 per cent and is 30 times more effective than Kojic acid (another whitener).

How does the Pet delivery system work?

The molecules in most cosmetic ranges are so large that they stay on the skin's surface without having any long-term benefits. With Pet, the molecules are much smaller and penetrate deeper. According to the maker, clinical studies show that up to 350 per cent more vitamins can pass through the epidermis with this delivery system.

How does the whitening ingredient work?

Alpha arbutin inhibits the activity of tyrosinase, which stimulates melatonin production and, in turn, adds colour pigment to the skin.

What's the difference between Cell White Fade Out 10 and 15?

The latter contains hydroquinone, which is only available with a prescription, whereas the former can be bought without prescription. The maker says the products are so effective that it has had to take people off the treatment because their skin became too light.

How often do you have to use it and for how long?

The maker recommends using Fade Out twice a day initially, then once a day. The desired result should be achieved after about three or four weeks. You can then change to Lightening Emulsion maintenance cream, which also has the active ingredient, but in a smaller dose.

How much do the products cost?

Fade Out 10 is $600 and Fade Out 15 is $670. The Lightening Emulsion is $940, but should last about three months. Order online from www.aceskin.com, or e-mail [email protected].
