Mongrel savages three-year-old

A MOTHER saved her three-year-old son from the jaws of a mongrel at a Yuen Long village yesterday.

Fon Cheung Lai-yu, 36, said Fon Chun-lung had been bitten and forced on to the floor by the dog, which belongs to a friend who often visits her.

The boy had apparently kicked the animal as it approached him. 'Although my son is naughty, he is very frightened of dogs. I don't understand why he was so brave to kick the dog which he knew was very fierce. Perhaps he wanted to defend himself,' his mother said at her Sheung Yau Tin Tsuen home.

She added: 'I saw the dog's mouth was pulling my son to the floor and I rushed towards them immediately.

'By this time I was very scared and I just held his wounded body. The right side of his face, mouth and ear were injured and the blood was gushing out from his head.' The child was sent to Pok Oi Hospital and then transferred to Tuen Mun Hospital where he was in fair condition last night.

The dog was taken to government kennels at Sheung Shui and will be kept for a week for rabies tests.

Three other dog attacks were reported yesterday.

A boy, nine, was bitten on the right leg in Sha Tin. He was discharged from hospital after treatment. At Pokfulam, another boy, eight, was bitten on the left leg.

A 12-year-old girl was bitten in Clear Water Bay at around midnight. She was treated in hospital.
