WWE: The Rock praises Cody Rhodes promo on AEW – ‘intent, passion, execution’

  • Hollywood icon and WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson gives Cody some kind words on Twitter
  • ‘Rhythm, cadence, tone … great promo, brother. You dropped that,’ he says

Cody Rhodes’ barnstorming promo on AEW Dynamite this week is all the world of professional wrestling is talking about. Now even “The Rock” has weighed in.

Hollywood icon and WWE legend Dwayne Johnson – who has been busy with MMA, crowning Jorge Masvidal the “BMF” champion at UFC 244 last weekend – gave Cody some props on Twitter after watching his electrifying performance.

“Rhythm, cadence, tone, intent, passion, execution. Great promo, brother. You dropped that MF @codyrhodes,” Johnson tweeted.

“Thank you friend,” Cody replied.

AEW senior vice-president Rhodes, who faces Chris Jericho at the company’s Full Gear pay-per-view event on Saturday night in Baltimore, has been drawing rave reviews for Wednesday’s passionate promo.

Prominent wresting journalist Dave Meltzer said Cody’s promo was right up there with any old-school effort from his father Dusty Rhodes, as well as legends such as Ric Flair, Bill Watts and Bruno Sammartino.

“At wrestling schools going forward, when they're teaching promo class, this is the one,” Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio.

“This is like your go-to studying material for how to do a baby face promo.”
