Hong Kong’s men set for tough T20 test against Nepal, Papua New Guinea in latest tri series
- Nepal making first at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground in tri-series that runs from March 10 to 13
- Games latest in string of tough tests for Simon Willis’ side, who have just beaten Qatar in three-match series
Hong Kong’s cricketers face another stern test over the next 10 days, with a series of T20 internationals against Nepal and Papua New Guinea.
The tri-series at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground comes on the back of a one-day tournament involving Malaysia and Canada, and the East Asia Cup against China and Japan.
Simon Willis’ side go into the competition having beaten Qatar on Friday in the super over of the decider of their three-match T20 series in Doha.
Nepal, meanwhile, are in the middle of a T20 competition of their own at home, where they are hosting Namibia and the Netherlands.
PNG are returning to the city for the first time since the South China Cup and West Pacific Cup in 2018.
The tournament will begin with Hong Kong taking on Nepal on Saturday for the Hong Kong Men’s T20I Series Friendship Cup, which officials said was “a one off match to celebrate the relationship” between the two cricket associations.
After that, the three teams will play a round-robin tournament, starting on Sunday and running through until March 13.
“We are delighted to welcome the Cricket Association of Nepal and Cricket PNG to visit Hong Kong for the upcoming Hong Kong Men’s T20I Series 2024,” Burji Shroff, the chairman of Cricket Hong Kong, China, said.
“We hope this tournament can showcase the development of cricket in Hong Kong and hopefully our fans will enjoy the exciting clashes between Hong Kong and the visiting teams.”
Fixtures (all games Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground): Saturday, March 9: Hong Kong v Nepal, 1.30pm. Sunday, March 10: Hong Kong v Nepal, 1.30pm. Tuesday, March 12: PNG v Nepal, 9am; Hong Kong v PNG, 2pm. Wednesday, March 13: third place v Hong Kong A, 9am; Final, 2pm.
