At first glance, Sarah Williams might seem like just another student studying at Canadian International School in Hong Kong. What differentiates her from most other of her peers is her ability to code.

After attending the first AppJamming Girls Who Code workshop, Sarah found her new interest in coding. Inspired, she continued to take full-semester coding classes and started her journey building mobile apps.

Sarah, what are your thoughts on coding?

I love coding because it lets me create games to entertain and it is special to me. Also I can make apps that I wish were on App Store and they're free!

First Code students complete a final project at the end of their term. For her project, Sarah has built her own family planning app, that allows her family to organize their lives better. When Sarah shared her app on our Summer Demo Day, the audience of young coders and their family and friends all loved it.

At certain point of time, most programmers will encounter some form of  problem. What problem(s) have you come across in programming?

Sometimes I will mix up the blocks or I will get confused.

With Sarah's classmates and instructors by her side, she is able to solve her problem. Another way that Sarah used to tackle her problem is to break the problem down into smaller problems, and solve these smaller problems individually.

Sarah, last question. What do you have to say to those who have not started to learn coding?

Coding will be the language of the future. So, if I were you, I would get ahead of the game and start learning ... And get creative.

Sarah believes coding remains crucial in the future, and wants to grow up to be a fashion designer. At the moment, Sarah is in the planning stages to upgrade her fashion blog and make an app readers of her blog.
