'Friendly' Rubber Duck makes a splash in Hong Kong

The Rubber Duck knows no frontiers, it doesn't discriminate people and doesn't have a political connotation. The friendly, floating Rubber Duck has healing properties: it can relieve mondial tensions as well as define them.

The Dutch conceptual artist's inflatable installation has made it to Hong Kong's waters after waddling around the world, in Sydney, Auckland, Osaka, Sao Paulo, Hasselt and other places.

The 16.5-metre-high Rubber Duck will be bobbing around Ocean Terminal in Tsim Sha Tsui from May 2 to June 9. It was inflated this week and is slowly making its way over to Harbour City. On Wednesday the "sculpture" caught the eye of dozens of coastal residents, ship workers and social media observers.

One Twitter user, who identifies himself from Shenzhen, is aiming to co-opt the yellow bird into a political statement. Let's rally at Hong Kong's Rubber Duck on June 4, he tweets, referring to the commemoration date of the Tiananmen crackdown.

Good idea or bad? Rubber Duck does have "healing properties"...
