The lollipop kids: naked Chinese toddler, 2, leaves home with twin brother and sister, 1, only in diapers – all sucking sweets – as mum sleeps
A naked two-year-old Chinese toddler walked out of the family home at 6am – taking her one-year-old twin brother and sister, who were wearing only diapers – as they all sucked lollipops while their mother was sleeping, mainland media report.
Yet the trio’s “great escape” on Monday did not last long – or lead them very far, The Beijing News reported.
Police officers came to the rescue after spotting the children walking only about a block away from their Hangzhou home in Zhejiang province, near to a restaurant where the police often ate their breakfast.
Half an hour after the three children had been taken to the police station for safekeeping their hysterical mother arrived looking for them. The children’s father had not been at home at the time they went missing.
Later, when she had calmed down the mother took the children home.
Comments posted on mainland social media about the incident criticised the mother for her carelessness.
Some bloggers also expressed concern about what could have happened to the children if they had not been spotted by the police.
One blogger wrote: “Thank goodness they did not run into child traffickers”, to which thousands of others declared their support.
