A Chinese teenager was rushed to hospital when he posted a live online feed showing his suicide attempt after being bitten by his pet cobra, mainland media report.

The unnamed 19 year old from Taicang, in Jiangsu province, was now in a safe condition after receiving hospital treatment, the news portal Yangtse.com reported.

However, the online community responded immediately to the live video feed, which was posted on a reptile enthusiasts forum, by alerting police.

Police contacted the teenager’s father, who denied that his son was attempting to commit suicide.

The father also said that the family did not need any help from the health authority.

However, police continued their search and found teenager, who lived alone, looking relaxed and playing with his mobile phone, despite one of his fingers bleeding after being bitten by his pet snake.

It is believed that the teenager had quarrelled with his family and come up with the idea of trying to worry them by streaming the online broadcast of his suicide attempt.

Police warned the public that they needed to gain approval before keeping any dangerous venomous snakes as pets.
