The man, identified only by his surname Mu, grew suspicious when he noticed a grey Jetta had been following his wife’s Bentley around for several days, according to The Beijing News

He asked several of his employees to fetch cars and accompany him while he tailed the Jetta one Friday last month. He then instructed staff in one car to bump the Jetta to force the drivers to stop.

As expected, the car came to a halt and a man got out. He demanded 200 yuan (HK$243) in compensation. Mu’s men asked him why he was following the Bentley. The man said he worked for other people, at which point the other person in Jetta tried to flee. Mu’s men caught him and the police were called.

The police later searched the Jetta and found handcuffs, leg shackles, adhesive tape, binoculars, large knifes, hammers and more than 20 cellphones.

The police said the number plate on the car was fake, and the case had been handed over to the regional crime unit.

When Mu went to check on his wife’s car afterwards, he found a GPS tracking device secured to the underside with a plastic tie.

“We were so lucky to escape the tragedy,” the News quoted Mu as saying.
