Chinese man convinces girlfriend to eat 'five meals a day' so other men stay away

Budding Romeo from Guangzhou encouraged girlfriend to double her weight to put off would-be suitors, then proposed marriage with a bunch of 'engagement flowers' made of chocolate.

A Chinese Romeo encouraged his new girlfriend to eat up to five meals a day so her weight doubled within a year to put off other admirers, Qianjiang Evening News reports.

The man from Guangzhou, in Guangdong province, constantly worried about losing his girlfriend to a potential rival once they started dating.

So he came up with a “brilliant” scheme to ward off other suitors – he transformed the slim woman, who weighed less than 50kg, by encouraging her to eat lots of food, the report said.

Instead of her eating the usual three meals a day the man insisted on taking her out to Guangzhou’s best new local restaurants to eat at least five times a day.

“Love you, is to feed you,” he was quoted as saying to his girlfriend by the newspaper.

Recently he felt confident enough to propose marriage – presenting his girlfriend with a bunch of “engagement flowers” made of chocolate – and she accepted.

Her weight has now ballooned to more than 90 kilograms.

Her new fiancee has also reportedly put on lots of weight during his efforts to woo her with food.

“The most romantic thing I can think of is gradually growing heavier with you,” he reportedly told his new fiancee.

The newspaper report does not provide details about the couple’s names or ages, or – more importantly – what the newly engaged woman ever thought of his method of winning her heart.
