A Communist Party chief in eastern China under investigation for alleged corruption has close links to the jailed former government leader Bo Xilai, according to a magazine report.

Wang Min, 58, the party chief in Jinan in Shandong province was detained in December for violations of party discipline and law, the form of words often used by the authorities to describe graft.

Wang has known Bo for years and arranged for his family to stay at a four-star hotel in Jinan during the former Chongqing party chief’s trial for corruption, according to Honesty Outlook, a magazine under the control of the Sichuan Daily newspaper group.

The court jailed Bo for life for graft and abuse of power in September 2013.

The article said that Wang arranged for Bo’s family to stay at the Shungeng Hillview Hotel during the hearings, which belongs to the city government.

A friend of Wang’s, who was not named, said the arrangement showed how much the Jinan party chief cared for Bo.

The magazine also said that an attorney working for Bo was based at a law firm run by one of Wang’s close friends.

A source told the South China Morning Post that Wang’s detention could be linked to alleged gains he made through a property developer.
