Guan Minqing, a teacher for several of China's first-generation princelings, including Bo Xilai, has died on Wednesday in Beijing at the age of 92.

At the bottom right corner of page 14, the Beijing Evening News announced her death in a two-sentence statement on Thursday.

Hundreds of messages commenting on her death circulated on Chinese micro-blogs as the news spread online among diehard Bo Xilai-supporters. Many have since been deleted.

Guan was no ordinary teacher - she raised the children of leading officials including children of early Communist Party leaders Liu Shaoqi and Bo Yibo.

Bo's son, disgraced Chongqing Party Secretary Bo Xilai, was her primary school pupil for six years preceding the Cultural Revolution.

He made a point in visiting her once a year before up to his fall from grace in 2012. Rumours on Sina Weibo have it, that Bo, who is awaiting trial on corruption charges, had sent someone to visit Guan last month.

A teacher at the Beijing Second Experimental Primary School, where she taught up until 1988, confirmed the news of her death when reached on the phone.

"She was loved by all students for her warmth and kindness," she said, declining to give her name.
