Want a first glance at the iPhone 6, Apple’s latest luxury smartphone due to be launched this autumn? Just take a look at Taiwanese pop star Jimmy Lin’s microblog.

Lin on Wednesday posted what are suspected to be “leaked images” of the iPhone 6 on his Chinese microblog platform.

Using three photos, he compared what he said is a silver-coloured iPhone 6 side by side with the currently available iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S.

The purported image of the iPhone 6 is seen to have a more rounded profile and a larger display in both length and width than earlier versions of the Apple smartphone. The images appear to confirm earlier speculation about the new design.

“[It has] a 4.7-inch screen. Its power button is moved slightly to the right, and an antenna is no longer concealed inside,” Lin said in his post. He did not respond to enquires on Thursday.

The 39-year-old celebrity – a singer and actor, as well as a professional race car driver – is known to be tech savvy. He previously leaked accurate images of the iPhone 5C and confirmed speculation of a seven-inch Mini iPad months before their launches.

The post has generated quite a buzz on Weibo. In less than a day it had been shared over 177,000 times and drawn some 80,000 comments.

Many commentators said they believed the pictures were of a model of the new iPhone, pointing out that “it has no manufacturing information printed on its back” in common with earlier models.

And at least dozens of bloggers called it “quite ugly” while those suspicious of the leak urged Lin to turn on the “iPhone 6” in order to convince them it is genuine.
