Macau has so much to offer gastronomically – from Michelin-starred fine-dining restaurants, to family-run eateries, street food and cosy private kitchens. Here are three established private kitchens for connoisseurs to visit.

Sing Gor Private Kitchen

The most acclaimed private kitchen in the city offers traditional Cantonese cuisine, especially authentic Shunde delicacies, that food critics describe as “mind-blowing”. The mastermind behind the kitchen is a culinary master whose moniker is Sing Gor, the former chef of a famous Cantonese restaurant in the city for two decades.

The private kitchen, nestled in a residential building on Avenida do Almirante Lacerda in the Macau peninsula, has developed a huge loyal following from food reviewers, celebrities and people in the dining industry.

Sing Gor’s expertise has inspired many Cantonese chefs in the region. Signature dishes include deep fried crabmeat cakes in the shape of coins, crispy chicken, stir fried frog legs with Chinese kale, and sour and sweet pork.

The dining area can accommodate just two tables of 10 people each night. Guests are advised to book at least a couple of months in advance, and the minimum number for each booking is 10 (an entire table). It costs about 1,100 patacas per guest.

Tommy’s Private Kitchen

The private kitchen offers high-end Italian fusion cuisine prepared by former hotel chef Tommy Cheang. It moved from a residential building to a kitchenware showroom on Avenida de Horta e Costa a couple of years ago.

Using exquisite ingredients, mainly from France and Japan, the chef creates dishes determined by the seasons. The regular menu costs about 900 patacas per guest; 1,300 patacas for the seasonal white truffle menu. The restaurant can host from two to 26 people every night. There is a minimum charge of 2,500 patacas per booking. Reservations are required a week in advance. The kitchen is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Maria’s Private Kitchen

In existence for a decade, the private kitchen in the Hoi Fu Garden residential building, is the brainchild of Macanese chef Maria Couto who gained her culinary experience in hotels and her family restaurant in the US and Portugal. Her homestyle Portuguese and Macanese cooking keeps people returning for more. Couto picks the freshest ingredients from the market every day to prepare her dishes, while using meat from overseas.

Popular dishes include baked assorted seafood soufflé style and baked duck rice Portuguese style. Bookings are required one week in advance, and guest are expected to confirm the menu a day before their meal. The kitchen accepts bookings from two to 20 people. It costs about 200 patacas to 300 patacas per guest.
