Meet Dara Huang, the celebrity architect with royal connections: the Harvard-educated Design Haus Liberty founder’s ex-fiancé is Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi – Princess Beatrice’s husband

Taiwanese-American Dara Huang has carved out a name for herself in architecture, opening her own firm and co-founding another after working under some of the biggest names in Europe.

Huang was also previously in a relationship with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, now husband of Princess Beatrice, the daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York. Huang’s broken-off engagement with Mozzi recently put her in the media limelight following the princess’s marriage in 2020 and the birth of the royal couple’s daughter in 2021.

Huang’s son Christopher Woolf Mapelli Mozzi aka “Wolfie”, whom she shares with her ex-fiancé, is now the royal step-sibling to little sister Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi. Sienna is the great-niece of King Charles and is 10th in line to the throne.

Aside from her royal connections, the Harvard-educated architect has found tremendous success in her own right. Born in the US to parents who immigrated from Taiwan, Huang’s father was a rocket scientist, having worked for Nasa.

Huang has had an illustrious career designing for a number of high-profile projects, including Manolo Blahnik stores around the world, as well as Harrods, Cartier and the Four Seasons Hotels.

She worked at renowned architecture firms Herzog and de Meuron in Switzerland and Foster and Partners in London – while there, she took part in landmark projects, including London’s Tate Modern II museum.

In 2013, she established her firm Design Haus Liberty, and later co-founded Vivahouse, which specialises in converting abandoned commercial spaces into co-living projects. Her work has also found its way to Asia, setting up an outpost in Hong Kong in 2019 and working on projects in China.

The talented designer revealed that organic forms and nature often inspire her, per Home Journal – as well as the other designers and architects at Design Haus Liberty.

Besides bringing that aesthetic to life in her work, she’s also created a series of shorts on Instagram that offer short and sweet tips to her followers on elevating their living space and creating harmony at home.

Beyond that, the celebrity designer has taken on several TV projects in the UK, hosting Britain’s Most Expensive Houses in 2022 and judging on Channel 4 competition show The Big Interiors Battle.

 

Besides sharing decorating tips with her 63,900 followers on Instagram, her style has piqued the interest of fans who turn to her for interior design pointers and fashion tips.

Her sense of colour and proportion extends to her fashion choices too, where she often shares insights on mixing high-street pieces with luxury items.

She wears pieces from fast fashion names like Shein, Primark and Zara, mixing and matching them with ultra-luxury labels, including Christian Louboutin, Dior and Tom Ford, to create truly one-of-a-kind looks.
