Known as the “Queen of C-Pop”, Jolin Tsai is a Taiwanese singer, songwriter and actress, and the newly appointed face of Valentino.

Considered one of Asia’s most influential stars, Tsai is expanding her horizons into the world of fashion as she joins the luxury fashion brand’s global line-up of ambassadors alongside the likes of Naomi Campbell and BTS’ Suga.

The appointment demonstrates Valentino’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, further evidenced by the new Valentino L’École spring 2024 advertising campaign, which also features American model Kaia Gerber and South Korean actor Son Ye-Jin.

Tsai also stars in a new campaign celebrating Valentino’s classic Loco bag, a timeless time capsule of an accessory which infuses urban modernity with a retro vibe. Equal parts stylish and functional, this double handle bag has a sleek lacquered leather surface with a VLogo Signature clip closure. Inspired by the word “locomotive” for its ease of movement, the shoulder bag easily transforms into a clutch for day-to-night use.

We caught up with Tsai, at the unveiling of Valentino’s autumn 2024 ready-to-wear collection in Paris, France. Here’s what the songstress had to say about her new role with the brand and her thoughts on how the show went.

How does it feel to be here and what did you like most about the show?

What intrigues me is they want to use “black” as the inspiration. I think it’s really fascinating and that shows the designers’ talents – by using different fabrics, different cutting. And all that empowers women. It’s amazing.

Tell us more about the experience of working with Valentino.

It’s absolutely an honour for me because it’s my first time as an ambassador. What we’re looking forward to is to do a show with Valentino’s ideas on top of my song. So that should be combined with music. That is something that I’m looking forward to so I can combine my inspiration inside.

What role does fashion play in your career and your life? Do you enjoy dressing up?

I think fashion is like magic. It’s like I can play a role inside. Just like I’m singing different types of music, different arrangements, different concert tours. That empowers a lot. So of course I enjoy trying different stuff.

What has kept you so relevant and thriving all these years?

Curiosity drives me forward; to explore different types of music with different producers. That’s the thing that keeps me going.

And of course I have a great team with me, so we grew up together and we make our career bigger and make the fans more excited.
