For a quarter of a century, Federer’s life was all about training and winning. After stepping away from his lifelong career, the tennis champ initially said he didn’t know how he would take it. In an interview with The New York Times, Federer added that he ended his career in the most perfect way at the Laver Cup: “I was surrounded by my biggest rivals, and my family was there and my friends.”

With no hectic training and travel schedule, Federer has had more time for the ordinary things in life. A year into his retirement, he told The Wall Street Journal that he was doing more dad duties, like driving his four children to school.

Fans have also seen a more laid-back side to the tennis star. In July last year, he got on stage at a Coldplay concert in Zurich and played the shaker.

South Africa faced off against New Zealand and, considering that Federer’s mum Lynette is South African, the tennis legend took her to the game along with his wife and children. Federer proceeded to go viral for meeting the Springboks after they won the game.
