‘World’s smallest 3-axis stabilised camera’ DJI Osmo Pocket is perfect for on-the-go video
DJI, the Chinese technology company known for making drones, has launched what it says is the world’s smallest three-axis stabilised camera, for taking on-the-go pictures and video at family events or on your travels.
The design of the pocket-sized Osmo Pocket, which is 12 centimetres (4.5 inches) tall, was probably inspired by camera buffs who shoot video by holding an ultra-portable Mavic Air drone in one hand.
It can be hand-held or attached, like a tiny drone, to a camera stick or tripod, and comes with an attractive price of just HK$2,699 (US$350).
The highly compact, easy-to-use portable device offers a host of intelligent features to help you capture creative videos and photographs.
The Osmo Pocket is DJI’s smallest three-axis stabilised camera.
Its 1/2.3-inch sensor records 12-megapixel photographs and 4K video at up to 60 frames per second
(fps) at 100Mbps.
The camera uses built-in dual microphones and advanced noise-cancelling algorithms to ensure audio quality.
The battery lasts for up to two hours when shooting video in 4K at 30fps.
DJI says Osmo Pocket’s three-axis mechanical gimbal compensates for movement and smooths out these motions so the user can focus on composition and subject matter.
The camera is equipped with a one-inch integrated touch screen, which provides a high-quality live view as well as the ability to toggle through the various shooting modes, adjust settings and review footage.
The screen also gives access to features such as ActiveTrack, which allows the camera to recognise and follow subjects of the user’s choice, and FaceTrack which automatically recognises a human face and locks the subject in the centre of the frame at all times.
The camera comes with a universal port that allows users to connect it to their mobile devices that use iOS Lightning or USB-C and other accessories.
It can be linked up to your smartphone via Wi-fi and/or Bluetooth connections, offering remote access to the camera feed and control of the camera.
The camera, which is 12 centimetres high, 3.69 centimetres wide and 2.86 centimetres deep, weighs 116 grams (about four ounces).
The product does not have built-in storage so the images and videos have to be stored inside a microSD memory card, that must be bought separately.
The camera is currently available for pre-orders from DJI’s Hong Kong online store and delivery will take between 10 and 15 days after receipt of payment.
