Earlier this year Louis Vuitton captivated audiences when it hosted its 2024 cruise show on the majestic Isola Bella, a stunning island located in Italy’s Lake Maggiore.

Staged against the backdrop of an ornate, baroque-style palace complete with lush gardens, the collection was in keeping with the singular vision carved out by artistic director of women’s collections Nicolas Ghesquière.

Embracing an eclectic, futurist and often fantastical style, which has become Ghesquière’s signature, the looks delved into aquatic folklore to create fairy-tale figures with modern appeal. Each character transformed as the collection transitioned from familiar to exceptional, from ordinary to extraordinary.

Aquatic materials like neoprene were tailored into winged wetsuits or patterned like seaweed. Skirts were covered in sequinned ornaments that resembled scales, while water droplet embellishments joined embroidered shells. Collars morphed into fantastical fins. Some models wore eye-catching headdresses crafted by an atelier specialising in film and opera accessories, adding to the baroque feel.

The pastel colour palette reflected the beauty of the location and its surrounding waters, while contrasting materials such as silk jacquard, cashmere, jersey and organza provided a narrative for the transformation, embodied in multiple stylistic ideas. Formal evening wear collided with urban signatures to create a fresh look.

The spirit of the collection is brought to life for audiences in the cruise 2024 campaign, which brings viewers back to the magical, dreamlike location of Isola Bella. Shot by British lensman Jamie Hawkesworth, the campaign stars English actress and rising star Emma Laird, making her first appearance in a Louis Vuitton campaign.

The images recreate the aquatic fantasy world of Isola Bella – one where legends of the Borromeo family abound and tales of folklore are passed down the generations. The campaign also captures Laird’s character’s journey on the island. At first, she appears to be hesitant and uncertain about the island and its past. As dawn approaches, her sense of discovery awakens and she sets out to explore and discover the island’s secrets dressed in an iconic look from the collection, and accessorised with the brand’s signature GO-14 bag.

A cast of fresh faces join Laird on her journey, including models Mica Argañaraz, Valentina Castro, Ida Heiner and Chu Wong. Together the ensemble embodies the fantastical spirit of the collection and this island of mystery.
