Renowned luxury fashion house Shanghai Tang showcased its symbolic 2024 spring/summer men’s collection at Milan Men’s Fashion Week on Monday.

The unique museum show titled “Source of Strength” took inspiration from the symbiotic relationship between humans and nature. At Museo delle Culture, Milano (Mudec), the brand married tradition and innovation in looks ingrained with Chinese elegance.

Shanghai Tang brought colour and vibrancy to Milan Men’s Fashion Week on June 19.

Established in Hong Kong in 1994 by the late David Tang, Shanghai Tang’s roots trace back to a tailor shop dedicated to safeguarding Chinese traditional craftsmanship.

Shanghai Tang was established in Hong Kong in 1994 by the late David Tang.

Over the past 30 years, the fashion house has established itself as a pioneer of preserving traditional Chinese handicrafts while modernising and reinterpreting the long history of tea silk.

Shanghai Tang aims to pass on traditional Chinese handicrafts to modern generations.

The house’s fabric manipulation technique has deep connections to Chinese cultural heritage. Its 2024 spring/summer collection is filled with the idea of the “primitive”.

10 most popular luxury brands in the world, ranked – but which is No 1?

Shanghai Tang’s designs are inspired by the concept of the “primitive” this season.
From traditional silks treated with natural dyes to fabrics including linen, cotton and silk that have undergone stone washing, the collection shows the powerful impact that tradition can have on modern materials and designs.

The 2024 spring/summer collection, which draws inspiration from Chinese poet Li Bai’s work The Daunting Route into the Region of Shu, also used the Tucker pleats technique and sand washing to create natural textures on the garments. Completing the collection is the use of tea silks mixed with a touch of Shanghai Tang’s iconic fluorescent colours.

Shanghai Tang interpreted its signature fluorescent colour palette for its latest collection.

Adding gravitas to the “Source of Strength” show was the venue, Museo delle Culture, Milano (Mudec Museum) that blends culture, history and art.

Besides the striking fashion, attendees were also treated to live music, Michelin canapés at Mudec’s restaurant Bartolini, and a look at Shanghai Tang’s latest home collection “Crane Garden”.

Has And Just Like That gone too far with the designer fashion labels?

Shanghai Tang fused old and new aesthetics in its latest fashion collection.
Drawing on Shanghai Tang’s brand concept of “Make Life a Party”, the 2024 spring/summer menswear launch event reinforced a dialogue between nature and art. Additionally, Shanghai Tang’s mix of Eastern and Western cultures allows the brand to showcase Asian styles to the international community. The new collection explores historical scrolls, celebrating the wisdom and innovative nature of Chinese culture.
Shanghai Tang is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

The 2024 spring/summer collection is particularly important as not only does 2024 mark the Chinese Year of the Dragon, it is also the 30th anniversary of Shanghai Tang. The collection is an ode to this significant year and further cements the fashion brand’s position as an Asian label showcasing Chinese cultural confidence on the international stage.
