What is Saddam Hussein’s granddaughter up to today? Hareer Hussein Kamel, whose mum Raghad Hussein is the late Iraqi dictator’s daughter, was just spotted at a luxurious Cartier event in Dubai
To say that Hareer Hussein Kamel has a colourful past is probably an understatement. Her grandfather committed a long list of war crimes and human rights abuses in Iraq. Then the US led an invasion of the country in 2003, and the accused was executed in 2006.
Of course, that was Saddam Hussein. His daughter Raghad and her husband Hussein Kamel Al-Majid defected from Iraq in 1995 with other family members, taking their daughter Hareer with them. They were granted asylum in Jordan. Now, Hareer has been spotted living it up in Dubai at a Cartier party.
So what else do we know about Hareer Hussein Kamel?
What did Hareer Hussein Kamel do at the Cartier event?
Hareer wore a patterned dress to the event, accessorised with a neutral-coloured handbag and heels. She posted video footage of herself at the event to her Instagram account, which made headlines, with international media saying she has come out of “exile”.
Before this, she had not been spotted out and about for a long time, and very little is known about her life. However, the media and public’s response to her appearance – with plenty of headlines and social media comments – illustrate the continued influence of the Hussein family.

A year later, in 1996, he was convinced to return to the country but was then killed – allegedly by Saddam’s forces, although exactly what happened seems to be unclear.
What does Hareer Hussein Kamel think of her grandfather, Saddam Hussein?
Hareer has written a book defending her family, saying in an interview with Russian government-run TV channel RT that “the history of my country has been largely misrepresented. I realise it was my responsibility to clarify the great history of Iraq and its people”.
She has also vocally supported her grandfather on social media, writing on her Instagram: “Love you and am proud of you today and every day and forever. May God have mercy on you, the most powerful man, my leader and grandfather of the hero fighter Saddam Hussein.”

Last year, Raghad was sentenced to seven years in jail by an Iraqi court for promoting her late father’s political party, per Times Now. The Ba’ath party was outlawed after the US-led invasion in 2003, which saw the Saddam empire collapse.
