Armie Hammer has been in an exceptionally turbulent season of his life – and it will not likely end any time soon.

As we can recall, the actor faced serious abuse and sexual assault allegations in 2021. Then, in September, Discovery+ released a documentary on his fall from grace titled House of Hammer.

With his name resurfacing in the news, here are five jaw-dropping updates we found out about this controversial thespian.

1. The bad boy gene runs in his family

House of Hammer is more than just a tell-all unpacking Hammer’s dark side. The documentary also uncovers the 36-year-old’s abusive mentality he seemingly inherited from as far back as his great-grandfather, the late wealthy industrialist and oil tycoon Armand Hammer.

The family’s alleged penchant for sexual abuse was first detailed in Surviving My Birthright (2015), an autobiography penned by his paternal aunt and Armand’s granddaughter, Casey Hammer. In the book description, she states that her grandad was a billionaire.

2. An heir, no more

Hammer, once critically acclaimed for his role in Call Me by Your Name (2017), was also an heir to his family’s staggering fortune.

Today, he is reportedly struggling to make ends meet. Not only has he been dropped from multiple film productions, including Amma Asante’s thriller Billion Dollar Spy, but his family had also cut him off from his inheritance, too, according to Fox News.

3. He may now be selling time-shares, not characters

With his red-carpet dapperness that we can all remember, it’s hard to imagine Hammer as anything but an A-list actor. However, the internet went into a frenzy in July upon seeing photos of the disgraced star supposedly working as a concierge selling time-shares at a hotel in the Cayman Islands where he grew up.

The hotel has since dismissed the claim, stating that Hammer has never been on their staff. Amid social media discussions debating the real situation behind these photos, an anonymous source close to the actor recently revealed to Variety that this news is, in fact, true. Well, we’ll leave it to you to judge!

4. American Express is hunting him down

As if Hammer is not in deep enough waters, American Express is also reportedly hunting him down right now. Various news outlets in October stated that the payment services company is suing him for unpaid services charges of US$67,000.

5. But wait, he still has A-list support

Hammer’s entire world indeed seems to be crashing down hard right now. That said, he can still find solace and support from an unlikely peer: Robert Downey Jr. The 57-year-old Marvel actor footed the bills for Hammer’s rehab stint in Florida last year, according to a report by Vanity Fair.

Word has it, he is even sheltering Hammer in one of his extra homes, post rehab. While no one could dissect the extent of their friendship, fans suspect that Downey Jr is acting in solidarity, since he, too, struggled with addiction once upon a time.

But whether Hammer can experience a career comeback similar to Downey Jr remains to be seen.
