Cheers for the two stars behind historic Trump-Kim summit: Moon and Lee

Congratulations to President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un for signing a declaration for denuclearisation and peace. While both of them have done a commendable job, there are two other personalities who need to be celebrated.
The president of South Korea, Mr Moon Jae-in, laboured to prepare the ground for this important meeting in Singapore and needs to be applauded. Similarly, the prime minister of Singapore, Mr Lee Hsien Loong, was gracious enough to host this unprecedented and high-security meeting in his home country. Both these leaders should also be complimented and deserve our thanks for facilitating such a historic moment.

Hopefully, the people of both North and South Korea can gradually erase the divide and come together, as the people of East and West Germany were able to after November 9, 1989, when the Berlin Wall came down.

Watch: Kim and Moon plant “peace and prosperity”

With Kim and Trump shaking hands, the world has taken a step away from the possibility of a nuclear confrontation. So, it is time for global celebrations.

Kim has made his point: that even a small country can stand up to the superpowers and hold its own. Now, it’s time to bury the hatchets of the past and move on to a new future. It is time for Kim to focus on the welfare of his citizens and on improving their lives. It is time for Kim and his people to be a part of the global community. Remember, “blessed are the peacemakers”.
